The most wonderful time of the year

And why is that? Why is it that even non-Christians, or atheists for that matter think Christmas is so wonderful? You hear words like "magic" and "wonder" and "peace" and "goodwill" Why? It's 30 days. It's cold and gloomy outside. So if there is no meaning behind Christmas, why do the majority of Americans feel so grateful this time of year?

I submit to you that we were born this way. It's in our blood. It's buried deep within us. The knowledge that we were created for more. The security that there is a God who loves us and calls us by name. The promise of a future in Heaven. And we bubble over with gratification. We express it this time of year through gifts and kind acts. We "pay it forward"

The reality is still the same. It doesn't matter if you call it Winter Solstice, or Christmas, or X-Mas (I hate that one) How about +-Mas? That's a good one. Cross-Mas. I like it. It will remind me of why Jesus came to earth. To die on the cross for our sins. And what do we do with that? I don't know about you; but Jesus is the only person I have personally known who was willing to die for me and did! He paid the price. And He knew that was His purpose when he came to earth in the form of a baby.

The story is true. Everyone knows it deep in their hearts. God put it there. We long for a relationship with such a God. We all desire to pay back such an overwhelming gift. So we adopt needy families. We think of our loved ones past. We contact our friends who have moved away. We buy great gifts for our children. We stand on the corner and hand out turkeys and hams to an impoverished neighborhood. (we're doing that in a couple of weeks for church) And it's still not enough. The truth is nothing could ever be enough. So we go through the same actions year after year; chasing a fulfillment in our heart that will only come from God.

I'm so glad I know Him. I'm so glad I'm His child. He's my Daddy. I'm the child of The Most High King. He made the universe. He made me. He cares for me like no other. He came from Heaven to earth to pave the way to Heaven for me. And it's THAT knowledge that makes this season so bright.

Merry +-Mas friends.
Love,
Melissa
