I got this from another blog. The verse reads, "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God."
So there is no reason to campaign or vote? I don't think that's what the verse is saying. I agree with my friend April. She stated in her blog that in the end, she isn't worried. No one person (or two people) are going to bring down this great country of ours. We do have checks and balances. I would go one step further and add that is our privilege to pray and support our leaders. I do. And I will continue to do so regardless of who is in office. I'm praying for Bush right now. And I'm not a big fan. But we also have a responsibility to campaign and vote. We live in a wonderful country where we have some sort of a voice. (all be it a small one) And we should exercise our rights as free people. Others wish to have it so good. I'm not about bashing any one candidate. That spews hate. But we do have a certain freedom that most cannot enjoy. And I think it's a shame to hide behind this Bible verse as your excuse to do nothing. That's what is called "taking the verse out of context" No, the person who wrote this comment doesn't seem to be doing that. I believe she is supporting a specific side and will exercise her right to vote next month. But many will not. And a lot of them will be Christians. And that's a crying shame.

The person who wrote that stated that as her reason to not get involved in debates which I think she interprets as arguments - which I don't agree on. I think you're right - we have a responsibility to be informed and vote. I've been pondering this very thing since that comment. My position right from the start is that I will not always agree with the other person's opinions as long as they are informed opinions. That's what gets me into so many discussions on this because I see so many misrepresentations of the truth and it makes me ill. Vote for who you want because that candidate represents your ideology not because they share your gender or skin color or because you believe the internet rumor about him being a secret muslim terrorist - when I hear those things I can't help but get into it because I can't stand that kind of willful ignorance.
I'm rambling - in short - I agree. Love you. xx
Yikes! In all that rambling I managed to leave off an entire thought -
My position right from the start is that I will not always agree with the other person's opinions BUT as long as they are informed opinions - I can and do respect their opinion.
right on.
and I love you too :)
